Life…there’s more to it than just colours !
Taking a break from the TOP 5 posts (Top 3, 2 and 1 will be up in a few weeks time)…
I was listening to the radio the other day. A lady was being interviewed. The lady took all of 10-15 mins describing how emotional she is about her mother’s black wedding dress…and how much important the colour “black” is in her life…how much strength she draws from it because her mother’s wedding dress was black in colour.
If I had heard that a couple of years back…I would have chuckled and switched the channel and completely forgot about that all together. My reaction was different this time. It was of disbelief bordering on anger…do they spend so much of time and energy on thinking about a COLOUR…really !!
I am increasingly becoming passionate about everything in life these days…I see things from a very different perspective now than I have ever done in the past. I no more attach importance to things that are…well…not important. The thought that comes to my mind ever so often these days is…”there is so much to do and learn in life…what the bloody hell am I doing?”. It all probably changed for me the day I saw death from so close that I mistook my heartbeat to be that of dead guy’s.
Lets face it…we all have at some point in time wanted to do something…but for some explicable or inexplicable reasons we just din’t end up doing those things. Well…I want to do ALL those things now…every last one of it !!!Engineering in Architecture included…okay…that’s after retirement
A few from that list…
- Trek to Himalayas.
- Scuba diving.
- Click a good black and white picture of a baby holding mother’s/dad’s hand while asleep.
- Learn Linear Algebra and Calculus.
- Trip to Amazon forest

I am intrigued! By the indifference if I may say so! Different things hold different other values to people. So what if a black dress means oh-so-much to the girl? It isn’t at all a representative of the things she spends her time and energy on! everything that matters to us doesn’t have to matter to others, and most often doesn’t. What we can relate to, becomes important to us, and funnily, I think that why we humans, are probably the most self centered species around (I’d top that slot, if there was one!) We, after all, have our quirks, all sorts of them! And most of all, I think we are allowed the liberty to like and claim the things we like so long as they seem important to us.
..the trek to himalayas, scuba diving, also in my list, some others being, learning karate, meeting the Dalai Lama (I have a host of queries to ask of him, of national importance!, being able to speak fluently in at least 4 international languages (japanese first!), get a academic degree in quantum physics, and travel at my whim! sigh!
..totally loved the new look!
I first read the comment on “Questions” and then this…it made me wonder. Here’s why
“But quite honestly, I think its strange how one can be complacent, and it amuses me to the point of disturbance that one can come about to accept anything without any sign of rationality or reason”
“Different things hold different other values to people. So what if a black dress means oh-so-much to the girl? |…| everything that matters to us doesn’t have to matter to others, and most often doesn’t”
Do you see a contradiction? eh eh!!!
Hey! I am all for giving people space to lead their own damn life the way they wish to. But it just gets terribly annoying some times when you turn on TV or a Radio only to see/hear some NONSENSE and IRRITATING discussions and programs. Mediocrity has become the flavour of the day now…I mean…seriously!!!
Psst…lemme tell you a secret…I just missed graduating with a Black belt in karate…I only had 3 more to go…Brown I, Brown Black and Black…I stopped going when I got to Brown II
(here’s the list…White, Yellow,Orange,Blue,Maroon,Brown IV,Brown III,Brown II)
haha! darling, liking a color and holding it dear to one’s life CANNOT AND DOES NOT mean that one is complacent. For all the rationality I am capable of, I cannot hold anybody under the label of “complacent” or even unreasonable for associating a mere color to be of a certain value g to them. Our quirks just add a trait to our personality, but never quite define our entirety.. We all have our habits, you must too.
I love how flawed we are, and how sincerely we continue to display them without meaning to!
If only all the things that are said were universal, to every situation that presented itself, I’d have a bestseller by now, and be living in Spain and have my own vineyard with all them monies I’d have made! alas!
My point being, those statements are meant for the two absolutely different situations that you have written about
..and oh, I ripped open the sandbag that my dad used to practise judo in, and that’s the last I saw of any martial art! So, don’t rub it in!
I hope you are neither a literalist nor have got into the habit of beating the gun regularly…let me know try again!!!
I am aware that you made those comments on two different topics…But the contradiction I hoped you would notice was in the difference in level of tolerance on topics that you DO agree with against those you DON’T agree with. Can you see where I am coming from?
I have no problem if that lady spends her whole life thinking about her favourite colour. But at the same time, I find extremely ridiculous that such stupid ideas are being fed into the listeners’ mind that absolutely have no value what so ever by the media at every damn given chance…Its plain irritating to say the least!!! I could have easily replaced this case in discussion with any of the saas-bahu programs on our television!!!(ofcourse in the hope that you are not a big fan of one of these programs)…I agree that we are all flawed…but its not something that we should be so proud of either!!!
..and to that my argument is that such “stupid” ideas are NOT FED into listener’s mind, because we don’t take guiding suggestions from personal inferences on TV! At the least, you and I know that YOU don’t. The underlying point being that its not really an issue worth vexing yourself over because it honestly doesn’t matter to you. But, oh dear intolerant human, it matters to that woman, and apparently to the media too!
And oh, I don’t think anyone’s ever(!!) proud of their flaws, but I could live with them any given day in the hopes of fixing them, than be the ideal, because the idea of perfection is what we dream of, however, being it, would mean nothing to look forward to, and that, would I think, be ugly! But that’s just me.
..and the only tv I’ve watched is the cartoon network. And trust me, its the real evil. I hope that puts the saas bahu query to rest.
